Pregnancy update – week 15

How far along are you?  15 weeks yesterday.

Best Moment this week?    Little C.’s first birthday on Monday!

Prayer requests?  Nothing special.

What scripture is speaking to you this week? For nothing is impossible with God. I am the Lord’s servant, Mary answered. May it be to me as you have said. Then the angel left her. Luke 1, 37-38

Baby’s growth?  Babies are the size of navel oranges. That’s just amazing.

Symptoms?  Nothing. Starting to feel better and less tired!

Medical Stuff?  Nothing.

Weight gain (or loss)?  My belly is definitely growing.

Cravings?  Chocolate.

What Made Me Cry This Week?  I am not as close to tears as I was a couple of weeks ago.

Maternity Clothes?  I wear my pregnancy jeans since yesterday.

Gender?  From last weeks ultrasound, I got the impression that there might be at least one little boy. The ob-gyn could very likely have told us, but we asked her not to do so.

Movement?  I feel slight movements on the right side of my belly quite often.

What I miss….   Nothing.

What I’m looking forward to….  Going to the cinema with a friend tonight.

Pregnancy update – week 12

Continuing the pregnancy updates. Sorry for not posting more, but I currently don’t seem to get to my computer…

How far along are you?  12 weeks today.

Best Moment this week?    Christmas Eve with our little one. While little C. napped, we prepared the tree, put on the lights. When little C. woke up from her nap, we let her crawl into the living room. It was amazing to see her completely stunned by the tree, the lights. Her eyes were shining like little stars. I was so unbelievably touched! She still is amazed by the tree and smiles whenever she sees it.

Prayer requests?  Please pray for my father. He recently had a stroke and just a couple of days ago he learned that there might be a problem of cancer as well.

What scripture is speaking to you this week? Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows [...]. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. Jesaja 53,4-5

Baby’s growth?  Babies are the size of plums. According to pregnancy books most of their systems are fully formed by now.

Symptoms?  Nothing. Starting to feel better and less tired!

Medical Stuff?  Nothing.

Weight gain (or loss)?  My pre-pregnancy jeans still fit, however, they are getting tighter.

Cravings?  Cookies and cooked eggs.

What Made Me Cry This Week?  Little C. experiencing her first Christmas, singing Chistmas songs, singing at church, singing lullabies – well, currently I am always on the verge of tears.

Maternity Clothes?  Not yet.

Gender?  Too early to tell yet.

Movement?  I tell myself that this is not possible yet, but sometimes I think that I can feel slight movements on the right side of my belly (just pure imagination I suppose).

What I miss….   Nothing. I am quite content right now!

What I’m looking forward to….  Having brunch with dear friends next Sunday.

Pregnancy update – week 10

I take part in the Pregnancy Journal Update by Sarah from My Joy-Filled Life. Please pray for a save delivery, as Sarah is in labor right now!

Please find my answers to her questions below:

How far along are you?  10 weeks today.

Best Moment this week?    We visited friends in Prague, Czechia, this weekend. It was so great to see them again. With my friend’s and her husband’s hospitality, it was such a relaxing time. She even set about curing us from our family cold (nasty dry cough and common cold) with wonderful hot soups, special tea preparations and the like. It was very relaxing and funny with them (though – of course – we didn’t sleep a lot)! I feel much more energetic then I did at the end of last week!

Prayer requests?  Please pray for the pregnancy.  Bleedings stopped for a while, but have restarted yesterday evening.

What scripture is speaking to you this week? Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do. Ecclesiastes 9:7

(I didn’t literally drink wine, of course.)

Baby’s growth?  Babies are the size of prunes.

Symptoms?  Some nausea especially during the drives.

Medical Stuff?  Bleedings (see above).

Weight gain (or loss)?  My pre-pregnancy jeans still fit – however, as I could see on my friend’s scale (we have none)

Cravings?  French fries.

What Made Me Cry This Week?  I read some passages on birth in my pregnancy companion (didn’t get round to them during the first pregnancy). I have no idea why these passages made me cry. I was definitely not frightened, rather emotionally touched.

Maternity Clothes?  Not yet.

Gender?  Too early to tell yet.

Movement?  No.

What I miss….   Same as last week – all food related…

What I’m looking forward to….  Doctor’s visit on Friday.

Pregnancy update – week 9

I participate in the Pregnancy Journal Update by Sarah from My Joy-Filled Life. Please find my answers to her questions below:

How far along are you?  9 weeks today.

Best Moment this week?    I had my first midwife appointment on Wednesday. The midwife explained that a twin pregnancy can be as relaxed as a singleton pregnancy and I decided to believe her. She gave me the advice to start early with pregnancy exercises, in particular to strengthen the back muscles – so I will begin in January already.

Prayer requests?  Please pray for the pregnancy.  I have had bleedings throughout the week. The reason is unclear, but my doctor assumes that it could be a progesterone deficit. She recommended rest, but that of course is difficult with a lively ten-months-old…

What scripture is speaking to you this week? For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

Baby’s growth?  Babies are the size of green olives.

Symptoms?  Hardly any nausea which I am very grateful for.

Medical Stuff?  Bleedings (see above).

Weight gain (or loss)?  I think I’ve gained a couple of pounds in the past couple of days, but my pre-pregnancy jeans still fit.

Cravings?  Salt and vinegar chips. They are not available in Germany, but my husband brought one package from London this week.

What Made Me Cry This Week?  Any lullabies that I sing to my little C.

Maternity Clothes?  Not yet.

Gender?  Too early to tell yet.

Movement?  No.

What I miss….   Eating raw milk cheese and, of course, drinking glühwein on christmas markets.

What I’m looking forward to….  Visiting friends in Prague next weekend.

Charleston

To finish up the series on our stay in the U.S. below some pictures from Charleston, SC.

From Folly Beach it was only a short drive to Charleston city. One Saturday we enjoyed a lovely sightseeing tour with Charleston History Tours. It was a walking tour through the historic district of Charleston. Our tour guide Joyce (who is pictured with our little one in one of the photos below) explained a lot about the historic background of Charleston and gave very useful tips on how to make great pictures of the historic sites. Should you ever visit Charleston and do not mind walking, I can really recommend doing her tour.

Three under two…

Sooner than expected our family is growing again. We are so excited and happy!!!

On Friday we had our first doctor’s appointment to confirm the pregnancy. In Germany three ultrasound examinations take place during the pregnancy, one in every trimester. We got our first one yesterday! Everything looked fine!

But…

what a big surprise: Everything was double.

There were two little embryos in my womb, two placentas, two umbilical cords.

Wow! We couldn’t believe it first! But the doctor confirmed that – indeed – we are expecting twins. Both babies are around 12 mm (0.5 inches) big.

We are very happy, but a bit shocked as well. It will be a challenge to have three little ones under two years old!

Please pray for a healthy pregnancy! And should you know of blogs of any moms in the same situation, please let me know – any encouragement and practical advice is highly appreciated!

Folly Beach

As we had enjoyed the beach on Tybee Island near Savannah so much, we decided to stay a couple of days at Folly Beach which is located just 15 minutes by car from the city of Charleston, another vibrant historic southern city. We rented a nice house in walking distance from the beach.

The house was very nicely decorated. We especially liked one inspirational text which was beautifully written and framed. I was very disappointed when I realized that I had forgotten to take a picture. What a surprise to find the text on Stephanie’s blog where she shared it a couple of days ago! It is even in German!

Back in Germany!

After a wonderful time in the U.S., we are back home. It feels good, though I really enjoyed our time together as a family.

We were in Atlanta for two weeks and then we had the opportunity to travel a bit. We spend one week in Savannah, one week in Folly Beach (only 15 minutes from Charleston) and a couple of days in Myrtle Beach before visiting friends in Columbia, SC. It was such a blessed time and I am very grateful for it. I will post some photos as soon as I have found the right cable to transfer them from the camera.

Made it!

We made it to Atlanta!

Travel wasn’t too bad. A friend of ours volunteered to drive us to the airport early Saturday morning. The flight from Munich to Frankfort was completely uneventful. Little C. slept through her first flight ever just fine.

We had enough time to change terminals in Frankfort and even had some breakfast in the Lufthansa lounge. When we boarded the next plane, C. started to become a bit tired and cranky. Initially, we didn’t have a bassinet for her. Sitting on my lap she couldn’t relax enough to fall asleep.

Surprisingly, however, the purser greeted us personally (wow – do they learn the names of their passengers by heart?!). She offered to make us change places with the two guys in the front row of the compartment. That was awesome! We got a baby bassinet and C. immediately fell asleep in it. She slept for an hour!

Then it was our job to entertain her for the next couple of hours. Not too easy! My husband and I took turns. Admittedly, I never had so much exercise on a flight ever before – walking little C. up and down the aisles, meeting other restless parents with little ones, changing diapers, getting hot water, heating baby food, singing silly songs and so on. During the 10-hours-flight, little C. maybe slept in the bassinet for two hours altogether. But we could also use it to have her sit in it and play with some toys which was really funny to watch.

When we arrived in Atlanta at 4.15 p.m. local time (which is 10.15 p.m. German time), we quickly got our luggage. We took a bus shuttle to one of the domestic terminals and from there the Atlanta public transport (called MARTA) to Buckhead which is located north of midtown Atlanta. I have no idea how long it took us to figure out which transport to use, where to go and which tickets to buy. It felt long though and exhausting. Maybe, because my husband and I were both a bit stressed and tired by that time. We worried about little C. because she seemed to be tired out and her front fontanel was quite sunken in (a sign for insufficient intake of fluids). We had a bit of a hassle with our luggage, too. (No surprise because we had to handle two big suitcases, one small suitcase, little C.’s car seat, two backpacks, the buggy and little C. herself in the ergo carrier).  The climate (hot and humid) didn’t really go well with our autumnal travel attire either.

Fortunately, the hotel had offered to pick us up at the MARTA station in Buckhead. We arrived at the hotel at 6.30 p.m. local time which is well after midnight German time. Without any further delay, we put little C. and ourselves to bed. What a relief!

The night was short and we were the first at breakfast! Then we took it easy and just walked to a nearby Target to get some groceries (in particular baby food). It was lovely to feel the sunshine on the skin!

In the afternoon, my husband’s course met for the first time. I unpacked the suitcases, organized our room and tried to entertain little C. without her getting into everything. Yes, she is starting to crawl! To be honest, I have mixed feelings about that. The carpet in our hotel room isn’t the cleanest…

On Monday I checked out the area by foot (we don’t have a car for the next two weeks). I still have to find out, whether there are any parks or playgrounds in walkable distance. Maybe I will be able to use MARTA to get around as well. However, first, we (and little C. in particular) need to overcome our jet lag. For that reason, I try to go outside with her as much as I can. Poor husband, who has to sit in a windowless classroom all day long!

Well, I just looked out of the window… it suddenly rains heavily… maybe I need to get rid of my concerns and let little C. attack the dirty carpet. Can’t see another way to keep her happy.
